WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez (FL-28), a Member of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), expressed his support for the passage of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Application Act. The Act aims to address national security concerns by requiring TikTok to divest from its CCP-controlled parent company ByteDance to continue its operations in the United States.

In his statement, Rep. Gimenez stated, "Proud to vote for a bipartisan bill that prevents our adversaries from using applications to spy on and steal the data of American citizens." He highlighted the potential risks associated with TikTok's ties to the CCP, emphasizing the need for measures to safeguard American data and national security.

Rep. Carlos Giménez, who represents Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, brings a unique perspective to the issue, being the only Cuban-born Member of the 118th Congress. With a background as a career firefighter paramedic and experience as the former Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County, Rep. Gimenez serves on key committees including the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Select Committee on China.

Regarding TikTok's operations in the U.S., Rep. Gimenez warned, "Either TikTok cuts ties with the CCP, or it will no longer be available in the United States." The Congressman's stance reflects a broader bipartisan effort to address concerns related to foreign-controlled applications and their potential impact on American security and privacy.
